Well, with my man gone for 4 weeks I get bored at times and when I am bored I usually either play games on facebook or bake. This weekend I did both. A lot.
I made some mini blueberry pies for my daddy(no pics), some smarties cookies, cinnamon buns and some chocolate squares. Sorry for the crappy pics-I just used my cellphone for em.
I'm bringing most of these to a baby play date/knit date this afternoon-I had 2 cinnamon buns and a square with coffee for breakfast and if I don't want to gain a million pounds I need to get them out of here! ha ha ha ha ha Good thing I at least subbed Splenda for sugar or these would be deadly to my waistline!

April and May

So I skipped over my April recap post only to stop blogging altogether! I am so bad!
Here's the main points:
April started off with a week or so of crazy anxiety attacks and depression. Got some anti-anxiety meds and ended up having a real bad reaction to the initial side effects and went home to stay with my parents for a week while my hubby was away.
I got used to my meds and am feeling fine as can be. Got a job and am working fairly steadily these days-although not enough to pay my bills completely.
Got accepted into college and paid my confirmation fee but got turned down for my student loan. Not sure how I'll pay for it, but I have a few months to sort that out.
My hubby is gone right now for 4 week doing work for his father's company so I am here on my lonesome with Mr. Zartan, but so far we have been getting along quite splendidly :)
That's the quick and dirty rehash of the last few months. I'll be more diligent with my blogging from here on out, folks!

Baby stuff!

Alright, so I am skipping my April news post for now to quickly post some pics of the baby stuff I have been working on. Some very good friends of mine are going to be having an unkown sex baby in August so I have been trying to find some great colors to work with that aren't too male or female since they insist on it being a secret even to themselves :)
Here's the two sweaters I have done so far-I'm currently working on a third. All from a Sirdar book I picked up, I'm not sure what number- I forget! Both are made with Sirdar Snuggly DK, which I am totally in love with!

I picked out this color first, and then Chad helped me pick out buttons to go with it. I love it! I'm using the left overs from this with a dark teal to make a striped sweater right now.

Then I decided I really wanted to use these apple buttons Kate got me for Christmas so I dragged Chad on a 3 hour walk to the yarn store and some other places and he picked out this lovely green to go with them.

The end of March

I knit a Lucha Libre for my brother in law for his birthday to add to the gift we already had gotten him. It was pretty funny.

I went out for my first jog of the year-I held up better than I had last year. Likely because a lot of it was trail running and had ups and downs rather than just running flat on concrete. I haven't gotten out again but I want to.

I dyed some Cascade superwash with tea. It was nice and easy to do and the color came out really nice. Not sure what I want to knit with it yet but I suspect it will be baby related since I am in baby knit mode for my friends Keith and Krista.

The month of March

Alright, so here's a quick relap of what I can remember from March. After our anniversary party I ended up getting Chad's flu which left me very very sick. i ended up in the ER twice and had to spend the night. Turned out I had contracted pericarditis in my heart because of the flu. So this is how I spent about 2 weeks of the month-on the couch with my kitty and not really chatting to anyone except my man.

Right after I got the all clear from my doctor that I was all healed up, I got a mysterious package in the mail. Inside was a beautiful note from one of my fav Ravelry girls, Shannon(aka Sparkleshan)

And this book, which I had been dying to get for a while now! I cried! It was the sweetest thing EVER!!!!! I can't wait to make stuff from it-I'm a little broke right now, so I am going to save a bit of cash over the summer and hopefully I can start a few of the sweaters closer to September so i can wear them in the fall!!

And when I was better enough to get out and see my friends, my best bud Lisa gave me this heart that she knitted for me when I was sick. It's too cute-I have it displayed in my living room and it makes me smile when I look at it :)

I'm so sorry I haven't been around lately-there's been a lot going on(mostly bad) and I haven't been able to get myself to update. I have a tonne of pics and can fill in the blanks so things are up to date-hopefully I can get that all up soon. I'd do it now, but I started a new job yesterday and I have to get my ass to work!

Finished the second pair of RPM's and made myself some crappy but workable sock blockers from some coat hangers. They will have to do until I get actual ones! At least I can hang em up now and they will dry faster than flat on a towel!

Yesterday, March 1st, was our 10 year anniversary. Went out for dinner with friends and family Saturday night but Chad was sick most of the weekend so he didn't enjoy it as much as he should have. Poor darlin :( I have been spoiling him with candy bars and stuff all weekend since he feels so crappy :(
And yes-he always looks unimpressed in photos-he doesn't mean to! ha ha ha ha

Craft Fair!

So I had a table at my first ever craft show on Saturday. It was a small show-with probably.....15 tables or so. Everything I sold except for one pendant at the end was to friends, but really? Half the people who showed up were people I knew :P So not too bad. I just put in an application for one in May that is waaay crazier and busier. I'm crossing my fingers that I get in!

SOCKS!

So for my birthday a friend took me to a yarn store and got me to pick out what I wanted. And as I wanted to learn socks, I picked out the booklet for Magic Loop knitting. I have to say-I LOVE magic loop! I tried socks before a few times and never finished even 1 single sock because I hate dpns and I found it went soooo slow! Now that I have magic loop, I predict many socks in the future! This is the first pair I did, they are baby socks from the winter issue of Knit.1 magazine. They are for my friends Keith and Krista, who are expecting.

This pair is for Chad's mom. She's awesome and I thought of her when I saw this yarn. These are going in the mail right away! They just finished drying! The pattern is RPM from Knitty.com. I am now on my second pair of RPM-this time for Tiffany, the friend who bought me the magic loop book and also the yarn I am making her socks out of-it's beiges, which is not as fun as stripey yarn, but it's what she wanted and is still pretty-just no dramatic color changes to make me go "Ooooohhhhhooooohhh" ha ha ha ha

My dartmouth knitting group is doing a KAL of Marlena by Cookie A but I don't think I have the skills to conquer that just yet-not to mention I am kinda broke and don't have suitable yarn for it. That will have to wait. It's a gorgeous pattern, though! There's also a wicked pattern by Ysolda in there that I would like to try at some point-asfter I have a few pairs of regular socks under my belt first :P

Vintage Hairstyling

The book I have been long awaiting finally arrived at Pretty Things Boutique this week! It's called Vintage Hairstyling and it is so amazing!!!! Everything you ever wanted to know about curling hair is in this book as well as pages and pages of step by step instructions for specific looks. There's even a small section at the back on make-up! Hurray! Lisa and I tried a few pin curls with our new bottles of setting lotion and set up my super old hair dryer to dry our hair faster. The small bits we tried out worked really well-neither of our hair keeps curls at all but I still had curls when I woke up the next day! It was insane! I can't wait to try doing a whole head of hair!

So last night was knit night with the Dartmouth Knitters and Brave Travellers group. This time we bravely traveled to OPA! since it was restaurant night. LEt's just say that while it was indeed awesome, I won't be going back for a looooong time-it was pretty expensive. Of course, I DID get a martini AND dessert with my meal :P Stop judging me! ha ha ha ha

Alright, so I do quite a bit of baking and cooking around here and I never think to photograph it. I'm going to try and keep up on that.
Also, in the fall, I am hoping to be enrolled in a 1 year course on boulanger and pastry arts. I cheated this time around by using the bread maker to do the harder prep work but I wanted to have it done right this first time so I could see what I was in for when it came to the shaping, rising, glazing and baking. I am really sad that I already ate supper because this looks and smells AMAZING.

Went out for sushi on Saturday night with some friends. Chad decided to come along even though he HATES sushi-and then he proceeded to order some random thing from the menu that he of course ended up disliking-and I don't blame him, it looked sooo gross!!!!!!!
I am allergic to seafood and there didn't seem to be any veggie tempura on the menu so I just got some maki and then a Peanut Buster Parfait when we all walked the 20 feet to Dairy Queen afterwards! The worse thing was that it was soooooo bitterly cold out! We were frozen by the time we got home!!!!!!!!!!

Today the man and I ventured out right before the freezing rain to a little coffee shop/cafe where his brother roasts coffee. We had no idea the place even existed but it was a very nice little spot, not too far from us, and we got to spy on him through the glass while we relaxed. It was expensive, but delightful. I can't wait till fund allow us to go back again!

It's been so very very long since I blogged. I'm sorry for that. Work has kept me busy busy busy and in the last month and a half I have been super sick, super busy and just all all around basket case when it comes to keeping up with everything!
But all that is over now-I am officially unemployed again as of today.
So here's what I am thinking-I am going to start carrying my camera with me and actually taking pics of my projects and things I make and all so hopefully next time I get super busy I will already be trained to keep blogging everything. Because I DO tend to get lazy :P ha ha h ah aha
Hope everyone's x-mas knitting is going good and that you aren't all up on Christmas eve trying to finish!
So far I have made a Calorimetry for a SIL, Vickie Howell's new Mushroom Mitts for another SIL, a hat for my brother, a scarf for my MIL and I am now working on another scarf for my cousin. But that is all! Oh-and finally trying to finish those damn mary jane slippers for my hairdresser that I started waaaaaaay back in June or something! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Yeah-they are the devil :P

This year my boy and I had our first ever party. EVER. We've only been living together for, oh, 9 years! ha ha ha ha Lots of fun was had by all and the only negatives the whole night were when one of my wine glasses got broken and when my boy decided to shoot bottle rockets off our balcony and the super came up. But other than that-AWESOME!

So months and months ago Alice Cooper tickets went on sale. Chad and I have already seen him, but I would go see him every weekend if I could so we told my parents, who are big fans too, and after discussing it they finally decided that sure-they'd like tickets too. At the time, I had NO IDEA that my parents had NEVER been to a concert. So I was insanely excited that night!
The concert was awesome and my parents loved it!

Pacafiesta!

This weekend was Pacafiesta out at Exhibition park in Halifax. I was super excited and even though I am supposed to be on a yarn diet, I decided it doesn't apply to special events. Regardless, I really need to make a huge dent in my stash so that I can get stuff to make Christmas presents-it's coming up on us fast!
So we(Lisa, Chad and I) got out there a little after noon. We ended up JUST missing Meegiemoo, which sucks because we have yet to meet! Julie came over and chatted for a few minutes-I nervously talked her ear off because that is what I do! ha ha ha ha ha ha Also ran into my aunt and cousin who were there because my aunt keeps alpacas over the summer for 4H for Atlantic Canada Alpacas and because she is looking into buying some midget alpacas.
Chad had a lot of fun petting the animals and laughing at all the alpacas making their little humming noises. Lisa didn't buy anything(for SHAME! ha ha ha ha ha) and I bought a bunch of fiber and some yarn.

Alright, so you may or may not know that I used to be really heavy into photography. I have a diploma and I spent 2 years meeting models and doing shoots in my spare time. I am obsessed with pin-ups and all that. So anyways, I ended up slowly getting out of it because my hours at work got to be insane and I was starting to have a bit of a melt down when it came to the meeting of the models and all that-I don't do too well in those kind of scenarios-meeting strangers for the first time and working with them and all that. Hell-I'm scared of my damn phone even! ha ha ha ha
So lately I have been really wanting to ease back in to it-more on my own terms. So I have decided to combine my love of knitting with my love of photography. I have enlisted some of my knitting friends to let me experiment with them and their finished objects. Eventually I would like to be doing shots of them with FO's the designed themselves. I've been really into the Rowan and Louisa Harding books(and others) and I LOVE the photos int hem. Gorgeous!!!
So for starters, keeping in mind that I am SUPER rusty and I didn't have my fancy lights with me, here are some pics of my wonderful, gorgeous friend Lisa and her new sweater she made! You can find her project page here on ravelry.

Alright, so I spent a good chunk of my knitting time the past month trying to finish up a bunch of baby stuff for my old boss who is now a daddy! Hard to believe since we all went to college together what seems like yesterday!!!!! I know *I* don't feel like I am old enough for a kid!!! ha ha ha ha ha
Anyways, I ended up making a lot-2 hats, 2 baby genius burp clothes from Mason Dixon, 2 wash clothes, a pair of Saarjes Booties and a pinwheel blanket that is definitely baby sized-I just couldn't keep knitting on it-I was losing my MIND!!! ha ha ha ha ha

My schedule is still all out of whack, so some days I am exhausted and others not so much, some days I have to go in to work, other days I work from home with varying success. Knitting Olympics

Alright, so I didn't do so well with the knitting olympics. I should have had plenty of time, but some unexpected work came up and I ended up having to work FROM work instead of from home, which is what I had been anticipating. So I didn't end up finishing my sweater sprint project or the last of my WIPSwrestling projects.

I DID finish 2 projects and got double gold for them!

The projects I finished were 2 of the squares for the Sexy Ladies Afghan square swap.

I'm going to try and finish up both my projects this week to get them off my plate. Then it's baby stuff galore before the mom-to-be squirts out her baby in September!

Feet, that is.
Whew-I have done some insane amount of walking the last 2 days!
Yesterday I started my new job! It's all the way out in Lower Sackvegas, as the kids call it, so I have to walk downtown for 20 mins or so with my heavy heavy laptop bag, hop a cushy bus for a half hour or so then walk another 25 mins or so through an industrial sort of area and then I get to work! It's rough on my arms and back(because the things is so heavy) but I am glad to be getting the walking in. Also, last night was knitting night so I walked home from that and tonight I went to the Dartmouth knitting night(bloooddddy marrrry, for you ladies who were there) and that was a walk there and back. Whew! My feet have blisters all over them! :P
Tonight we were celebrating my new job and winning the Knit Girl contest-I had some wine and some food(I skipped all meals today for some reason!), and we petted Lesley's yarn pirate yarn and it was fun :) But all that ghost talk makes me glad my man is here and already in bed-now I can go to sleep! ha ha ha ha ha
Tomorrow is the stary of the Ravelry knitting olympics. I had originally been signed up for Cherry and to finish Nicole's vest I had started making her. But I'm not sure I can finish both and 2 sweaters is a bit much and a bit boring. So I made my Private Benjamin hat one of my WIPS for WIPS Wrestling, as well as 2 afghan squares for my sexy ladies afghan square swap. I figure that's enough variety to keep me occupied! :P ha ha ha ha ha

Been working on a bit of freelance comic stuff, then I got some freelance video game animation clean-up from some friends and now I am helping out at my old work while a friend of mine is absent for her wedding-so I've been up around 5:30 every day for the last week and up until 11 or so working-taking breaks to eat and shower and that's about it. I finally got to my dishes today-left since Sunday or so. Pretty gross stuff. Also managed, since I work from home, to get a little laundry done too, so clean bed sheets and towels! Yay!
Late last week I got my boy to take some more pics of me to round off my entry into the Bad Knit Girls August competition. *crosses fingers* I will post the link once voting starts!
So, what's new in knitting news? Well, I haven't gotten much done lately. Been doing up some dishcloths and started my Private Benjamin hat so I won't burn my head in the sun. Haven't gotten to work on my tube top since last week, but I am just about done-just have the ribbing along the top of the back piece to do and then sewing it up! Should be able to get to that early next week-hopefully before August 1st since it was the July KAL for the Knit Girls.
I have a lot of items in my queue that I would really like to get started on but not only do I not have the time these next few days, I also have a super insane case of startitis and I have many projects I need to get finished-I'm so bad for half finishing things. Some things half finished right now that have to be done reasonably soon?
-Tube top(has to be finished for August 1st)
-Jodi's slippers(can wait till Sept, I think)
-baby romper for my boss' new baby(due in Sept-needs to be done by end of August)
-dishcloths(I'd like to get a few more done for this weekend to bring home with me)
-Private Benjamin(no point doing it if it's not done in the summer)
-Nicole's vest(started this in April, I think, and then it got warm, so I put it on the back burner. Should finish it before the fall, though)

Stuff on the needles that isn't horribly important:
-Zartan's cat bed(he doesn't know about it, he doesn't care)
-TV caddy(this baby is getting frogged, I think. Too much garter stitch)
-Alpaca(started this last fall for my aunt then never finished him-a little felted alpaca. Would like to finish for THIS christmas)
-Dad's socks(still only a leg-knitted to the heel turn and then stopped. And this is only the first one :P)
-Afghan(I started a dark pink, light pink and black crocheted square afghan for myself a while back. I need something like 200 squares for it. It's going to be a while)
-Criss Cross garter(I made the gloves that match in a week and then plowed onto the garter. And got bored. So it's hiding somewhere)
-Tattoo baby sweater(this has been sleeping for over a year. Well over a year. Some day it will get finish and be awesome.....SOMEday :P)

Wow, that looks really horrible all laid out. *shrugs shoulders* Ah well! ha ha ha ha ha ha Once I get a life again I will make a plan to methodically go through them. Until then I must resist casting anything else on!!!!!!

Gaspereau take 2!

Alright, so things have been busy busy busy lately! I've been doing some freelance work, visiting people, and going to the park all the time!
Yesterday, despite all the business happening to myself and others, Lisa and I made a trip back to Gaspereau to hit up the Gaspereau Valley Fibres yarn shop. I LOVE this place. Seriously. The rural area is f-ing beautiful, it's in a BARN, it has tonnes and tonnes of fibre and spinning wheels!!!!! I wish I lived across the street from it :P
So we made the trip, bought ourselves some yarn(I got 3 skeins of Cotton Fleece, a huge bunch of sock weight wool to dye, black dye and hot pink-which she gave me for free-and 2 circular needles) then headed back up to the Blomidon look-off again to check it out now that it's summer and things are blooming!

When we got back to Halifax we decided to get some ice cream at the park-it was hot out all day and when we were leaving the restaurant in Wolfville that we had eaten at we saw a sign for their EXTREME Banana Split, so we couldn't get ice cream out of our heads :P

There were so many random people at the park. all kinds of old people muttering and being weird, kind of like Grandpa Simpson and the whole "So I took the train to Shelbyville to git a new heel fer ma shoe..." There was also some middle eastern "thuggy" type guys who were there in a MINIVAN and a middle aged couple in a fancy schmancy sports car and the woman kept pulling her shorts out of her ass. Oh-and the best part-a thug white guy with a pitbull or something like it that was wearing SUNGLASSES! The DOG! It was awesome! I wish I had of gotten a pic.

Alright! So today was a busy busy day! I went in to my old workplace to get something from my friend and then a bunch of us all went out to lunch, which actually really sucked. The food was not very good at all. So keep in mind Haligonians-the new Freemans on Grafton is possibly even worse than the one on Quinpool.
Then I came home and puttered around until I heard from Kelly(knittybitch on Ravelry) and Leslie(lulubelle on Ravelry). I got picked up on my way to the park by Leslie and her van full of family and we met Kelly and her fiancee and daughter at the park. It was a great time, lots of sun and walking and trying to convince Tony, Kelly's man, to move back to Nova Scotia. Both girls are awesome and I look forward to seeing Leslie around town and Kelly whenever she can get her man to make the trip back down :)

So my grandmother went through all her old knitting stuff and passed along 2 garbage bags of yarn to my parents to bring up to me. They forgot it last time they visited, so I was sooo excited today when they brought them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(they also brought me cat litter and some sweet sweet coldcuts and things from my favorite meat shop!)
So yeah, back to the yarn-a lot of it is stuff I would never normally use, being a lot of super old acrylic(I found receipts in the bags going back to 1986!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I was SIX!!!!!!), but because it is my grandmothers I love it all-even the horrid Phentex stuff!!! I think i will make a random blanket for myself out of it so that I will think of her every time I use it :)

Okay, so this post actually has some pics in it-I know, I know. As an amateur photographer that owns about a billion cameras I really should have pics in here more often(and of higher quality) but sometimes I just can't make myself do it :P I'm horrible, I know. Oh well. this post HAS pictures in it! Yay! Everybody dance now! Do, do do do do, Do do do do

Alright, first off is a couple of pics from when Karyn(first pic), Lisa(second pic) and I all went to see my friend Sarah at her dinner theatre show-Frients(making fun of Friends). It was quite raunchy and funny and everyone had a good time. I even got dragged onto the stage by one of the guys in the show that I have a little crush on. :P So that was cool, if embarrassing.

This is one of Mr. Zartan enjoying some balcony time on his birthday, which is Canada Day. No pics of the bbq party we had for him because I suck and forgot to take my camera out-too busy stuffing my face with potato salad :P He turned 8, which in cat years is 48. he is an old man, but still a spry little bugger :)

The honey's parents came to visit this weekend past and we spent Saturday shopping and then we took them to the park for a very long and sun filled afternoon walk. Martello Tower was open so we took them in to have a looksie, since they had never been there before. This is me grabbing Chad's mom for a picture.

Oh well, I hope it turns out good-not like I'll likely ever wear it :P Still plugging away on the weight watchers and fitness-seeing results but not enough to wear a tube top :P ha ha ha haha

Well, I guess that is it for now. I have some freelance comic stuff in that I am plugging away at, as well as helping Chad with some of his stuff.
We had derby practice yesterday and only 4 girls made it. Some had good reasons and others I never heard from. I'm seriously starting to think about giving up. If people can't make practice or practice on their own, we're always gonna have people who aren't good at all and people who are really good and there just isn't enough of us to keep it going much longer, I don't think. Which is a shame, but I am getting tired of being the responsible one and getting frustrated over it. We'll see how many people show up for tomorrow's practice.
Wednesday night is knitting and Thursday is hanging out with my parents and then Thursday night I get to meet TWO of my ladies from the Knit Girls. I am quite excited!!! Weeeee!!! Busy busy week ahead!

Hmmm....it's been a few weeks since I've really blogged. It's funny-I'm on the computer most of the day wishing people would update their blogs so I would have something to read, and then I forget to update my own! Not like there's a whole lot going to, but still.
Let's see. What has been going on?
Well, I've jumped back on to my knitting these past few weeks. But of course, instead of finishing up some of my many WIP's, I just ended up starting new projects altogether. I finally got a chance to make some booties off of Ravelry and they are sooo adorable!!! I ran out and bought more Baby Ull to make more-they're just too cute when they are all done.I'm also making a pair of pink and purple mary jane slippers for my hair dresser, and a pink baby romper from the Baby Knits book.
This week I received in the mail my free copy of Knit So Fine that I won from Ruby, after her running a contest on her blog. There are a few sweaters I am looking forward to knitting in the fall some time :)
Also this week I received my first pen pal letter! It's from Ann and she lives in Norway!!!! Very cool. She did up such an adorable package for me, with tea and a postcard and lots of stickers and a pic of herself and a HUGE letter! I can't wait to write her back and send her lots of goodies too!!! I sent out 2 letters a few weeks ago-one to Sweden and one to Austria, so hopefully I will hear from those girls too :)
On the jewelery front, I am designing and making some matching necklaces and earrings for my friend's "bridesmaids" for her wedding in July. Got all my materials and made the necklaces last night. The earrings will follow later this weekend. They look great so far! Woo!
Hmmm....I guess that's probably all I've got right now :P My mind goes blank sometimes when I try and remember what I did-unemployment will do that to you. I have a small bg project to work on this weekend and a lot of sewing to get done. Then I have to see a friend who is visiting from Toronto, get to Michaels to get yarn for the KAL(knit-along) for July with the knit girls, go to a birthday party Monday night and then Tuesday is my cat's birthday party. Yes, that's right-he gets a party. ;)

Girl's Night and a Trip to George's Island

This weekend was a great weekend! First we had a girl's night at Kel's place on Friday night and then all hungover, Lisa and I, along with my boy Chad and our friend Gillian, headed out to George's Island. George's Island is one of 2 islands that sits in Halifax Harbour. McNab's-a large tree covered island, sits at the mouth of the Harbour and is open to the public. George's Island has apparently NEVER been open to the public before. I have been totally obsesses with it since I moved here-it always looks so romantic and lonely, and there are ghost stories about it too! ;)

Knit Girls Fundraiser

The KnitGirls was founded by Rhonda Adams (aka Madamknitgirl) in December of 2007 as a monthly competition of bad ass women who knit and have tattoos, where the winner is crowned a Knit Girl and has her own feature page on the website as well as being included in future KnitGirl projects and events. It was an immediate hit and she has been running Knit Girl competitions each month since, showing no signs of slowing down! The Knit Girls has expanded and can be found on it's own website, and Knit Girl Blog, Ravelry, Myspace, Facebook, and Lingr.

The KnitGirls is so much more than the monthly competition, as many women in theRavlery group can attest to. We have become a close-knit (pun intended)family and support system. There are several women who can probably admit to spending precious time that they could be spending knitting chatting on the Ravlery group instead.

As some of you know, the website and competition have been completely funded by Rhonda. These costs include,but are not limited to, website fees, voting system fees and prizes that are presented to the winning Knit Girls, not to mention all of the time and effort she spends each month maintaining the site and running the competition. A busy busy week

Alright, so it's been a week. What have I been up to? Well, let me just tell you!
Tuesday I bummed around all day on the internet looking for jewelery making supplies-I haven't done a stock up in a while and I need to get off my ass and do it already. This time I was looking for some pendant frames-I've really enjoyed making the belt buckles and I found some neat copyright free stuff on Etsy that I can buy for cheap and use, so I need to find some good pendant frames.
Tuesday night was our first derby practice this season. After us all being off skates since the fall(when we lost our outdoor space and were unable to get an indoor one) only TWO of us showed up. Pretty shitty. The one bonus was that I really got to help the one other girl that showed up and she was skating pretty damn good by the end of it. For me-it was just like riding a bike. I love having my skates on!
Wednesday-I went downtown and met the boy for lunch, picked up my lovely casserole and bowl set from miss Brooklynn(!) and walked all over the place. Then I ate some supper and walked with Jillybean to L's place for knitting night(about an hour walk from my place). Lots of good exercise. I started a crocheted afghan for my bedroom that is all sorts of little squares in different colors all sewn together in the end. Later in the week I actually doubled the size of the squares so that a) my sometimes uneven crocheting wouldn't be so noticeable and b)so that I wouldn't have quite so much sewing up to do in the end. I think I need something like 130 squares in 3 different colors to finish it :P ha ha ha ha It's going to be a while. I think I'm on #4 right now.
Thursday I went to the mall with my loverly friend Raven Maven and we tried on lots of stuff in the search for this one damn dress I am trying to find. I finally found what I was looking for at Smart Set and of course, they didn't have Large which was what I needed. :( Then we ran into Kent Building Supplies Garden Centre so I could get lots of pretty veggies for my balcony garden! I didn't do ANYTHING with my balcony last year, so this year I wanted it to be nice.
We also picked up some fast food on the way home, which I haven't had in forever! I grabbed a big bucket of mixed KFC for me and the man to have for supper. It totally wiped me out of my days Weight Watchers points but it was sooooo gooooooood! ha ha ha ha ha
Friday I puttered around, met the man for lunch downtown and went to a second Smart Set to find my dress-again, no large. That leaves 2 left in the whole city. Friday night we hung out and watched Idiocrisy(?) which a friend had lent us.
Saturday we went to the park and had a good walk and I wandered around with one of my old film cameras snapping pics while the man and his brother played catch. There were many many funny dogs to be had. Then we walked all the way back and I picked up a little tree for Chad at another garden centre for the balcony. It's cute :P Then we had a full night of watching hockey and me making nachos and things and crocheting. I was going to go to a party that night and totally lost track of the time and next thing I knew Maven was texting me about going and i was half asleep and not up to heading out(it was after 11 at that point), so I didn't go :(
Sunday was our second derby practice! More girls showed up this time and most of the way through practice I totally fell during a drill and took my partner down with me! It was hilarious! But now my ass is sore-I totally always land on my right ass cheek. EVERY time!!!! My palm of my right hand hurts a bit too, but nothing I can't live with, of course. It was quite a good time and when I got home I was exhausted!
Well, that was my week. I'm glad I seem to be out of this reclusive rut I was in. For weeks now I have put off going out, even on beautiful days, and haven't really planned a whole lot to do things with friends. I have to make a point of just going out and enjoying myself, even if I am by myself at the time.I may even start reading down on the boardwalk-it's only about a 5 min walk from my place.
Alright, so that's it except for some pics of my balcony and a note to miss Brooklynn-I sent you a present! I don't know how long it will take to get there, but it's on it's way!

Tattoo Festival 2008!

Alright, so Saturday was the first day of the tattoo festival! I got all dolled up and headed out in the rain with my girl, Sarah(aka Raven Maven), to get our merchandise and all that set up. We met our manager and Kelta(Tragedy Ann)'s husband Chris(Scratch) there and started setting up. Then I realized that I, moron that I am, forgot my banner for our table at home. So he graciously drove me all the way home so I could get it. Then, on the way back, we stopped into the Burger King drive through to pick up some food for lunch and ran out of gas on the way out. :P So there I am, all dressed up and useless, sitting in a gas-less SUV in the middle of the road while Scratch runs over to get a gas can and some gas from the nearby(thank god!!!) gas station. So we finally get there, finish setting up and the day went pretty good.
Sunday I was there from mid afternoon until 9. I picked up a couple of pairs of earrings and some FUDGE!!!! it was yummy :)
Then today, the last day, was the longest seeming day yet, probably because it was a slow day, we didn't do much in sales and since most of the artists had nothing to do, I was wanting a tattoo even more than I had the other 2 days :P Soon enough, I keep telling myself, soon enough.....

Tattoo Festival!

This weekend I will be busy working my roller derby's booth at the tattoo festival.
I worked it last year, but was very nervous, mostly unprepared and it was very cramped. I'm hoping this year will be better. We all know each other a lot better, and it's at a different local than last year, so there should be a lot more room. I desperately wish I was getting tattooed by my buddy Wade, even just a little one, but I am sooo broke right now. Plus, what money I had went to a new haircut, which I hadn't had in MONTHS, and some stuff for our table, like a little acrylic sign holder for the prices(we're selling t-shirt and pins and things, and I am selling some belt buckles and earrings to benefit the team), some glow bracelets, some little name tags(hee hee!) and probably some photo copying today for our flyers.

Adventures in Knitting

Alright blogworld, what's new with you?
Since my last post, I have put myself on a some-what yarn diet. there's a few things I need to pick up, because I have a taste now for knitted garments and want to make myself some fun summer stuff, but I need to save money and get the stash down to make room for even better stash in the future, so no buying random yarn for a while! ha ha ha ha I have made my first ever actual garment for myself this week. It is the Eyelet Shrug from 101 Designer One Skein Wonders. I found the pattern a little confusing, but overall it turned out good, just a few little mistakes. I think it's cute. :) and it's not BLACK! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Lisa and I are on a big mission to stop making clothes or buying clothes in black all the time-it's REALLY hard. Black is soooo nice! ha ha ha ha haha

Last night was our first attempt at a group knitting night with a bunch of extra people than our "core" group. We rented a room at a local coffee shop that seats 15 or so people and invited a bunch of people we thought/knew were interested in coming, but that we couldn't normally invite because a) space in our living rooms is at a premium right now and b) some people don't really know other people and you don't want to be inviting strangers to peoples places and all that and c) we like having just our little group most of the time because we all mesh good and can gossip and all that good stuff. So there we were, at the coffee shop, and there were SIX of us. Out of all the people we invited SIX showed up. One regular was sick, one didn't show up and another that was supposed to be there also didn't show up. And then some people just never got back to us. So it ended up being more expensive than we had previously thought. :( Hopefully next time will be better. It was too bad. And then me, genius that I am decided I wanted a NEW project to work on, so after trying to find yarn and patterns and all that I chucked a hank into my bag with a pattern and some needles and ran out the door. Only to realize I can't knit from a hank. So I spent 2 hours out of the 2.5 we had there just winding it into a ball :P ha ha ha ha ha ha I suck!
Anyways, that's my world. Now I have the rest of the week to knit and watch the SIX movies I rented this week and have yet to watch, that have to be returned on Monday night. King Kong, Superman Returns, Zathura, Kinky Boots, Black Snake Moan and Snakes on a Plane. All movies I meant to see when they came out and then didn't get a chance to. Knitting again at last!

Well, with all the stuff going on around here, I haven't done much knitting latey. But the last few days I have been working to get the Ernie sweater ready to stitch up for this Wednesday, because Wednesdays are knitting nights and I want to make sure I have some experts on hand when I start. Just have to do the second sleeve by then. As well as clean my whole apartment-knitting is at my place this week!
Also, last night my fellow derby coach and I met with a potential new roller girl. She was very nice and will make a fine addition to the team, I think. I can't wait to finally get back on my skates-it's been months and months since I even had them on my feet! Stupid winter and stupid lack of indoor venues=no practicing for us :(

Well, since my friend Lisa and I are still unemployed from work, and most of our friends are not, we decided to do a fun little field trip on Wednesday while they were all at work, down to Gaspereau Valley to the yarn shop! Weeeeee!
This is an old textile plant in Windsor that is being turned into condos. Very cool!

Okay, so I have been MIA for a while now. A month. I am so sorry :( I kept meaning to update you, dear blog, but I was always busy or too lazy to take pics of my progress-and I do hate to post without pics.
So for weeks now I have been working on some freelance work I picked up, so I have been putting in long long hours. It was totally worth it, though. I got to work on a Tori Amos comic book, and from what I saw, it's going to be great! I can't wait till it comes out.(My job on this was not a glamorous one, dear blog, but I was honored nonetheless).
And along with that, I have also been dreadfully sick lately. Totally my own fault. I took a medication I really shouldn't have and it had some very nasty side effects. I was in the bathroom being sick on either end for days and days and even now, days and days later, I have to be EXTREMELY careful what I eat or I will get sick again. I don't know how long until it's completely out of my system, but for now I have to wait and see.
So all this has left me with very little knitting done-which is horrible :(
But on a plus note-I'm learning how to spin my own yarn! Weeeeee! I suck horribly at it right now, but practice makes perfect!
And now, for some photos, shall we? Yesterday, my boy and I and my best friend went to the zoo!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!! We were supposed to rendezvous with his brother and his girlfriend and their family, but we ended up there early and so started off without them. The zoo is such a weird place-for the most part it's exciting and interesting and there's a whole pack of pugs running around and you can go into some of the pens with some llamas and things, but on the other hand it's kind of depressing to see the exotic animals just laying around in small pens :( I will say one thing-I think the Oaklawn Farm Zoo's animals are better off than others I have seen.
Anyways, on to the pictures!!!!!! I took soooo many, but I will try not to put too many up here :P ha ha ha ha ha

Crochet? Moi?

Okay, so I learned how to crochet last week with the insistance by a wonderful Ravelry cohort in Germany that I did not have to stay "crochet retarded". I struggled with my first swatch, but came out victorious in the second one, so I started and finished a project using single crochet-which is as far as I had gotten in teaching myself :P So I now have a nifty, slightly wonky nurse purse! Woo! I want to put picks up, but I want to block it first and haven't had time to yet.
On the WIPS, I still have to finish what was my mystery project, but is actually the devil hat from Stitch N Bitch-I already told the recipient she was getting it and she found my blog because I am dumb and linked her to it to see my weiner dog :P ha ha ha ha
Started a little more work on my dad's socks, but then I had to rip back because I was dumb again and accidentally left it inside out, so the stockinette stitch turned bumpy.
I think I am going to start a small project for a friend whose birthday was a few weeks ago. I have to mail her present to her, but I would like to include something handmade. Maybe some jewelry-that would get done quicker :P
That's about it for now, I suppose-I will try and be more interesting when I am not half asleep and blogging ;)

Knitting

Knitting was fun this week :) Last week I taught a friend how to knit and she came over the other night to start her first real project-the lace-up gloves I made from Naughty Needles. She got so obsessed with them she went home and kept knitting and ended up finishing them already! Woo!
Knitting night(last night) was great too, despite my having been soaked on the way. We had 2 more girls than usual, so it was plenty full! I got to work more on the weiner dog I started the other day and today I resolved to do nothing(I've been out doing stuff all week!) and I finished him! He's a little haphazard, but he's adorable. He will make a great draft dodger for Chad's sister :)

Wow...I just added a new project I am working on to my Ravelry and I see I now have 8 WIP's(work in progress). That's baaaaaddd........I know I will finish the newest one soon. I can't say what it is in case that person sees this post. And I have a blanket I am making that won't be done for ever. But the other stuff-I should really get on that...... I have:
1. a dishcloth I started forever ago after completing one and needing something simple to keep working on
2. the blanket
3. the new project that I can't talk about
4. Kitty Dim Sum cat toys-I made 2 but didn't finish a third that I started
5. Socks for my dad that were supposed to be for x-mas that I told him he would get "some time"
6. My garter belt from Naughty Needles that matches the wrist warmers I made already-it's slow going-the yarn is sooo thin
7. A baby bib I started before Christmas
8. A baby sweater I started when someone at work was having a baby(which is now almost a year old). It's an awesome sweater though. I really should finish. I did it in burgundy with off white collar and cuffs and it will have swallows on either side of the collar in the off white too! Too cute!

Hmmm.....I think I will tackle the cotton stuff alternately-cotton always gives me a burn on my finger. Then maybe the socks. :)

I wonder if I can knit and bike at the same time...

What to say, what to say? I'm still very much enjoying my time off, but the money coming in is not enough to stave off the bill collectors, so things are getting a little stressed for me around here. Hopefully Chad and I will be back to work sooner rather than later and things can get back to normal-although my knitting time will be greatly sacrificed :P
Last week I finished a very early b-day present for a friend which I unfortunately can't post here yet because she MAY stumble across it on here. But I will say that it is wicked awesome and I hope she likes it.
I'm also working on a bag that I am making up as I go that, if it turns out, will be up on my etsy page.
And I think tonight, for knitting night, I am going to start a devil hat for my friend Sarah, who learned how to knit and purl last night when she was over.
Yesterday Sarah and I went out and each bought an exercise bike. I couldn't really afford it, and Chad was very much against it since I had an elliptical for about 2 years and barely used it, but even thought my bike has left me broke, I am determined to have it and use it to death. My weight has been slowly making it's way up again and I can't let that happen. I have the time to work out, so I should be. And now we have cable again, so I get to watch tv AND workout at the same time. Then knit. Then workout :P ha ha ha ha ha ha

Well, it's been 5 days since my resolve to better myself. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday I did lots of exercising, yesterday I took off(but actually walked for a good hour or so to visit my Grampie in the Infirmary while he rested after his ankle surgery), and today I am going to be doing that long cold walk again and hopefully something later tonight too. I've been eating good, and not too much, and I have dropped 2 of the pounds I somehow put on last week(my boyfriend's mom brought us lots of cookies-that's why). I feel good. And I am hopefully going to keep this cheerful optimism for a while.
On the knitting front, I finished my criss cross gloves but have not taken pics yet. I had purchased some ribbon for them last week, but it's too crunchy for them so I am going to have to substitute something different next time I get out to Michaels. I starts the front of the garter and am....close to halfway. It's taking a lot longer than the gloves. But I am still on my original skein of yarn! I am so in love with Louet! I also started some Kitty Dim Sum from www.knitty.com. I need to go pick up some catnip today while I am out :)
My purse frames finally came too! So I am looking forward to making some bags and coin purses this weekend! :)

It's Time

Well, I've been feeling a little down lately, stressing about things I can't change and things I can and all that stuff. I decided this morning that it's time to stand up and take responsibility for the things I can change and have screwed up and set things right again. It's time to be productive again and not waste all my time watching tv and being lazy. Granted-I WILL miss the obscene knitting time, but I have to reward myself with knitting time after actually accomplishing something, like working out an obscene amount. Like I just did. I swear I feel like I am not going to be able to move at all tomorrow, but it was worth it.
On the knitting front, I am done one of my criss cross gloves and just have a little ways to go on the second. I'm very excited to have them done! And so soon! Then I will try steam blocking them and maybe they will be all ready to wear tomorrow-not that I'm going anywhere :) I don't know what to work on now, though. I still have the Sophie bag that I started, but I just don't seem to feel like working on that RIGHT now, so I need to find something else to occupy me. And make some more jewelery too.
Today is a good day, I think. A new beginning.

Life is killing my buzz

Okay, so the shiny new-ness of being unemployed and having lots of time to knit has worn off. I am broke. Very very broke. I'm still loving the free time, the sleeping in and the knitting time, but I am starting to stress out again, which I don't want. My system is finally back to normal from the last 2 years of working/eating out/stress, and I don't want to go back to being sick :(
We have company this weekend, so that should be fun, anyways. Started the criss cross gloves on Wednesday night and have reached the thumbhole part and am stopping, because I am not entirely sure what to do. I have instructions there for it, but I'm nervous there's something there that I'm supposed to know that they didn't include in the pattern. I've run across that before. All I know is it says nothing about putting the stitches on a holder, but I have watched friends do mittens and they put the stitches on a holder until the end and then got back and knit them. So I'm waiting until Lisa is around to help me. :P Just in case. Always ere on the side of caution. They are turning out great so far, though!

Ahhhh....unemployment

Not too much going on lately. Frogged a bag I had started and then reknit it and felted it. Just waiting for it to dry now. Started a simple dishcloth pattern while sitting at a tattoo shop with a friend all afternoon yesterday, but cotton always makes my hands hurt so i didn't get very far.
Not really sure what I want to work on at the moment. I have a bag I started before Christmas that I need to get working on, and I want to get my criss cross gloves and garter done, but I haven't even cast them on yet. Also found a pattern on ravelry for some socks by a local woman using local yarn that was in my prize from Tangled Skeins. Would like to make those too. So many decisions!!!!!
I've managed to watch all of Season 1 of the X-Files this past weekend and last week was Season 2 of Rome. At least I managed to fit some exercise in there. Everything but my hands are going to atrophy! ha ha ha ha ha

Well, even though yesterday was my birthday and I celebrated then, I also went out with some of my derby girls tonight to the Economy Shoe Shop for some drinks. One of the girls got me a set of knit lites, too! So now I can knit in the dark! Woo!

Well, once again it is my birthday. They seem to be coming faster and faster every year :P

Yesterday I finished up the Yorrick scarf from Knitty.com for my friend Sarah. I had handfelted it the night before in my sink and I have to say it worked out really really well by hand. I had a bit of a heart attack yesterday when I cut out the eyes and nose holes(I decided to not knit them and I went and cut them afterwards so they would have a wonkier look to them). but all seems well.
And she LOVES it. So I am glad :)

Well, today my sweetie finally comes home. Still finishing up cleaning the apartment before he gets back-I have a whole pile of stuff to send back with my parents next time they are in the city. Was farting around Ravelry and found a substitute yarn for a sweater I wanted to make myself, so I am going to be picking up some Lion Brand Cotton some time this week, I hope. If I can get to a Walmart or Michaels and if they have the color I want.
Hope to get knitting tonight. Haven't done any in a few days because of the massive apartment wide de-Christmasing and cleaning. I'm on the sceond part of the Yorrick scarf from Knitty, so I hope to have it knitted up in a day or two and then I have to get it felted somewhere, or hand felt it.

Well, so much for my massive cleaning efforts for the hubby-he called this morning to say they can't leave today because of the weather. And WHY did they decide to leave today and not yesterday when it was beautiful out and he wanted to leave? Because SOMEONE didn't want to come back yet and spent the day doing NOTHING around the house. SOMEONE who didn't want to come home to an empty apartment. So now, because SOMEONE was being selfish, my honey is stuck 5 hours away from me on New Years Eve. Lovely. I mean, I like my solitude, but it's been DAYS. And were the roles reversed, SHE would be pissed and I'd never hear the end of it.

Today was a good day. I met a friend for brunch, hit up a LYS again and hung out some more. Then home again, home again, to try and get this pigsty under control before I lose my "bachelorhood" tomorrow when my sweetheart comes back from Christmas vacation. The living room is a complete disaster zone, but hopefully I can have it under control and the bathroom and bedroom cleaned and tidied by the time he gets home. ;)
Finished his alien scarf-it just has to be blocked, which I am sure you can guess that I haven't had time for today. Picked up some hot pink and black Nature Spun today-going to make a bag of some sort out of it for my store. Not sure what, exactly, but I have a few ideas. :)

Well, I feel like maybe i may have beaten the blogging bug that I had come down with, meaning-my not posting on any sort of regular basis. I seem to have made quite a few posts in the last little while. Maybe that's the fault of unemployment ;)
I have been laid off for exactly 1 week now. And I gotta tell ya, it feels pretty awesome. I haven't quite started to stress out about money yet, and I am still in the wonderful period of lethargy where you don't quite yet feel like you HAVE to be doing stuff. And by doing stuff I mean housework, exercise, that kind of stuff. What I HAVE been doing, aside from the time spent with my folks over Christmas, is making my way through all 3 seasons of Deadwood, back to back, while knitting on the couch. So I think that equals something along the lines of 36 hours of sweet tv. Today I stayed in my jammie jams until late in the afternoon, which is unusual for me. No boyfriend home to pretty myself up for, no errands to run, just me and my knitting. It's been pretty sweet.
But I imagine I should get on that housework-he IS coming home in a few days ;)

Naughty Needles!

Okay, so I remember when this book came out and I was so super excited for it. I am a pin-up fanatic and the idea behind it was too good to be true. Then I picked it up at a bookstore, gave it a flip and decided it wasn't so great after all.
Now you have to keep in mind that at that time, I was new to knitting and had only just started venturing into certain areas. When I started knitting, I planned only to make dishcloths and other horribly useful items of the sort. Then as time went on, there were more and more things I saw I wanted to make. All the while swearing I would never make SOCKS.
Socks are done on teeny tiny needles, I can buy them at the store, and they take a while. I didn't yet see the point. Then I picked up a Yarn Harlot book and by the time I was done, I wanted to make some damn socks.
Then recently, after swearing since the very beginning that I would never make a sweater, I now have a whole pile of sweaters I want to make.
So now that I have been surfing Ravelry every chance I get, there are a tonne of patterns from Naughty Needles that I now want to make. I guess I just had to grow up as a knitter to appreciate a lot of what the designer has created. I now have several patterns I want to start-only I have to finish that damn alien scarf first :P And one I started for a friend-Yorrick from www.knitty.com

HUGE sale over at Tangled Skeins in Dartmouth! Got my prize and picked up a tonne of yarn for myself and a friend who doesn't get access to fine wool where she lives. Took the ferry both ways-I am getting used to it. Doesn't freak me out too badly. But really-when yarn is the destination, I can't convince myself the ferry serves a purpose and that dying on the way to or from would be well worth it :P

Oh, so I didn't keep up with my blog like I said I would. I'm horrible, I know.
But now I am on Ravelry, so I HAVE to, or I'll show everyone what a lazy slacker I am. That's what happens when you are on too many websites. I'm only on, oh, a million or so. So some of them are bound to get neglected once in a while.
Now that I AM on Ravelry, though, I have found a lot of cool patterns to try out. I started one this weekend and finished it in 2 days. It was awesome :) I like starting and finishing something in a reasonable amount of time.
I think I will even bring it to work today-it deserves to be taken out of the house and shown off. :) Here's a pic of it from when it was being blocked as it dried!

As for my other knitting, I did a scarf for my brother for x-mas that he should be receiving in a few days, and I pretty much slowed to a crawl on those socks, which were an x-mas present for my dad, so I think I will just plug away at them whenever and let him know I am making them and he will get them eventually :P
Most of my time, though, has been spent making earring cards and stickers for my jewelry. Doing some decent business the last few weeks, from my friends, of course. I hope business picks up in the new year. I'll have to get word around more or something. Anyways, off I go! My last day of work is in 2 more days and I am very excited. Then I can enjoy some much needed time off, although if it goes for too long I will be hard pressed for cash. At least I will be able to get back in to my photography and have more time to knit!!!!

Okay, so I have been neglecting my brand new blog. This is what happens when you have waaaay too many hobbies, events, and all that stuff to do. I finished that other scarf for myself that I was talking about, and picked up a bunch more of that yarn to do some other stuff. Started a baby bib I have to get back on. This week I made 2 cammo baby hats for the 2 boy babies I know are coming this winter from friends. I also finished that rug I was working on(a while ago, actually) but I still need to regraft it(I did it backwards) and get a mat to sew under it so it doesn't slide around and kill anybody :P
Also, this past weekend, I started my forray into sock knitting. I am making a pair of blue and grey striped socks with Opal sock yarn. I've done a few inches of ribbing and am now just a handful of rows into stockinette stitch for the leg.
What else is on the needles? Started back up on Chad's alien scarf(from the 1st Stitch N Bitch book) so I want to have that done some time this month since it is scarf weather out there most days now. I also started a felted alpaca. I need to get back on that as well, since it's a Christmas present.
Been mostly spending my time making jewelery, since that's something that I also enjoy doing and am trying to make money at. My sale site is over at devilish.etsy.com
I just sent a bunch of stuff to my hometown to be sold, so here's hoping *crosses fingers*

Knitting and pics!

Okay, I DO have stuff to update, but I don't have pictures ready yet, so that will have to come later. I finished another scarf this week-it's extra long and super soft. I bought 2 skeins and ended up just using the 1, so I think I will make another and keep one for myself :) I will get a picture of that this weekend.
I also started on a rug, but I need another skein of the wool I am using, so I am going to go as far as I can and then I need to pick another one up. It's a chunky off white wool with some flecks of a sort of autumn palette. Kinda nice-like rolling a sheep in a pile of mulched autumn leaves :)
Last night my darling dear Lisa helped me get my cat to the vet so he could get checked out and I found out that my little guy needs dental work done and it is going to cost me lots of money. He's lucky I'd do anything for him-that's all I can say :) I'm way to broke right now for that but we'll make it through somehow.
Afterwards we went to Lonestar for supper and Chad bought us both food-because we are awesome! Then back to my place so I could get lots and lots of photos of Lisa and her knitted projects. Good thing I left my light up and ready-all I had to do was move the table and put up a backdrop :) I'll post a couple here when/if she gives me the go ahead, just to show off how cute she is :P ha ha ha ha ha ha
That's about it right now. I am trying to get supplies(but I am broke) so I can start making some handbags and accessories to sell this fall. I'm hoping I can supplement my income with it, since once I get laid off I will be extra broke. I want to sell stuff around the city and possibly also on Etsy, as I know a few people that have stores online there. Not sure how good business is on there, but worth a try, I suppose.

Okay, so this weekend has been full of knitting.
Friday night I started a pair of wrist warmers using this lovely black and purple variegated yarn I bought quite a while back at The Loop. I think it's Cascade. So there's one of my 2 sets of dpns. I also have another pair that is pink and made by Pearl. I have ONE of the set of 5. Only ONE. The rest, I know are in the package. Somewhere.
Why is this a problem right now, you ask? Well, because I am finally(I say that like it's been forever when really it's only been 3 or 4 days) at the decreasing point on a camo hat I am knitting for my sweetie, Chad. And I totally could have finished it last night if I a) could have found those dpns or b) hadn't of started that damn wrist warmer Friday night.
On the plus side, in my frantic 2 hour+ search, I had a chance to lug out ALL my yarn and get it somewhat more organized. I now have a GIANT bin that I freed up from stuff I still hadn't unpacked yet which is now full of the many balls of yarn my mother has acquired for me at yard sales, another giant bin full of the cheap Red Heart and Bernat yarns I had picked up when I first started knitting, along with a bunch of cotton, a medium sized bin full of all my natural wools(my "good" yarn), and another bin full of my novelty stuff. And I have an extra bin left over for the future. Hahahahaha Half my closet is yarn.
But ya know what? No damn pink Pearl dpns were to be found. So now I guess I need to spend the morning trying to finish 1 of 2 wrist warmers so that I can use the needles to finish the hat, and then do the other wrist warmer. Thank heavens it's still the long weekend :)

The start of X-mas knitting

Okay, so in posting the stuff as I work on it, I realize that I am opening myself up to possibly ruining x-mas presents on people. I really don't want to do that, but if I wait until everything I am planning on making in the next 4 months get's delivered and opened, then i will have no projects to post. So I am just hoping that no one I know other than the handful I gave the link to actually find out about this blog. Mom and any other relatives-if you come across this, I apologize. As a compromise, I am just going to leave out the recipient of the items I list, so maybe someone will be surprised if they DO stumble across this little corner of the internet.

So, my finished project for this post is a very neat little scarf I made up on the fly and finished in about 2 days(so maybe, 5 hours?) thanks to the nifty little knitting loom I picked up the other day. I wish I had the time to handknit everything, but in some cases, you need to make a compromise. I decided scarves are that compromise. At least when heading up to x-mas.
The yarn I picked up that I fell absolutely in love with for this piece is by Patons and is called "Bohemian". I picked black because, well, I usually do, to be honest. And this yarn is soooo super soft. Really-I'd love to just roll around in a huge pile of it. Then, after getting it home, I decided to pair it up with a Berroco yarn called Candy FX that I picked up a few weeks ago on sale at The Loop. The color for that one was 8734-it's a black, silver and white sort of concoction. Very cool.

Knitting night!

Well, tonight was knitting night-Wednesday nights-and me and the girls all met at Lisa's place. I was working on a present for my mom, Karyn is working on a wicked Transformers scarf she is inventing for her fiance, Lisa is working on multiple things(like her second Space Invaders sock from knitty.com) and while we were missing our little Kel, Crystal came out for the first time and learned how to start a hat. I think it was a productive night for the most part for everyone. Afterwards, to spare Lisa from driving EVERYONE home, and in a bid to be somewhat self sufficient, I decided to not only get the bus over by myself, but to get it home as well. Lisa's neighborhood is slightly scary at night and I was the only person on the whole bus all through the shitty neighborhoods until we hit pretty close to downtown. SCARRRRRYYYYYY!!!!! hahahahaha But worth it, i think. I need to stop relying on drives. Especially since they all come from Lisa. :P I love you, Lisa. You're my hero. :)
Notable quote for the night goes to Lisa with "I can't take a good picture of my weiner" in reference to what I call her bag sack-a crocheted plastic bag holder she finished last weekend. If she ever gets a blog up, you can go look at it. It's pretty :)
And I have a picture tonight! My first hat, knit from no pattern and finished off with a little help from Stephanie Pearl-McPhee's Knitting Rules. I can't wait till it's cold enough to wear it! :)

The beginning

Well, now, I'm a little out of practice at blogging, so if anyone ACTUALLY decides to start reading this, I apologize.
I'm actually running a little late for work, so no pics for my first post, but I WILL have a few pics of the new hat I just finished for myself that I pretty much made up out of scratch and which I was very pleased with. I almost can't wait for it to get cold! ha ha ha ha ha
Projects I am working on-well, some of them I can't really mention, because thy are gifts for people I know that may happen to stumble across this little piece of the internet. I am working on a baby kimono for a friend who is pregnant(all that's left is the seaming and the ribbons-the knitting part is done!), a few scarves for some gentlemen friends that I know, STILL have to get back to Chad's scarf that i started LAST fall-hahahaha, and any number of other things.
Well, that's it for now, I will have to get some pics from friends since I actually don't keep too much of my knitting for myself!
